Mission
Summary of Activities
The Light of Buddhadharma Foundation International (LBDFI) was founded in 2004 with the aim of revitalizing the Bharati Sangha in the holy land of India. Currently LBDFI acts as the primary sponsor of the Pali Tipitika Chanting International Council and meets all the living expenses of bhikkhus who travel to the ceremony from within India. The Foundation also offers daily Dana and bound copies of the Tipitika to the Sangha during the course of the ceremony itself. LBDFI has also sponsored the development of pilgrimage sites in India along with the training of monks from all countries in the chanting of Pali, and is developing a dedicated Pali Training Institute in Sarnath where novices and bhikkhus will be able to receive training in Pali to further stimulate their development.
Light of Buddhadharma Foundation International is a fully registered charity in India and in the United States.
The inspiration for the Light of Buddhadharma Foundation International (LBDFI) is the compassion and wisdom of the Buddha, as expressed in the Buddhadharma and brought forward through the living tradition of the Sangha. The vision of the Foundation is to apply the principle of loving compassion to achieve peace and harmony for all humanity.
Extending Venerable Tarthang Tulku's work for world peace and the Buddhist heritage, the Foundation's mission is:
- to support preservation and restoration of the shrines and cultural artifacts of India, the Aryadesha;
- to support pilgrimages and religious ceremonies at the holy places for practitioners of all Buddhist schools and denominations;
- to support research into and understanding of the texts, practices, and symbols of Buddhism, especially by sponsoring educational programs and events at the holy places;
- to promote mutual respect among all beings through the worldwide cooperation of men and women of good will.
